For the decade of the 90s Game Boy reigned supreme as the queen of handheld idols. Even her Color muse ended up a success. But with an aging idol and aging hardware, Nintendo had to make the decision to produce a successor eventually. Enter the Game Boy Advance!

Game Boy Advance, also nicknamed GBA or Advance, became an idol in a way similar to how Super Famicom did. In high school band, she heard about an audition from a prestigious company called Nintendo. Only after joining did she realize it was for singing and not playing trumpet, but Nintendo loved her style and voice so much she got the job!

Whether it be the "Boy" in her name or an affinity for masculine clothes, Nintendo made the decision to give their next handheld idol a boyish attitude. Her original costume is reminiscent of male kimono from the Edo period, and her clean-cut short hair reinforced this look. This made her particularly popular with female fans, even moreso than other handheld system idols.

Game Boy Advance was known for a number of new installments in existing series, but plenty of covers and remixes of older ones as well, particularly from the Super Famicom. She brought a unique spin on Mario with the Super Mario Advance series, and the Capcom-developed Zelda title The Minish Cap has a charm that is undeniably Advanced. Many consider her Pokemon titles to be among the best. She also debuted many new series to Nintendo such as Golden Sun, WarioWare and Mario & Luigi, and brought Fire Emblem and the Wars series to overseas audiences. She collaborated with GameCube often, getting on stage for her concerts such as Animal Crossing and The Wind Waker. GBA also had unique peripherals such as the e-Reader which, strangely enough, had their own promotional concerts and music.

GBA had a style not unlike the Nintendo 64, using heavy use of sampling and mixed stereo tracks in her music. Her high-pitched vocal range made her particularly suited for songs that gave a light and cheery feeling, such as those present in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, her most popular title ever. Her weak lower register gave her a unique spin on some covers of old soundtracks, and even led to the creation of some new ones such as the remake of Donkey Kong Country 3.

GBA got a makeover twice in her career, once as the SP, sporting a flashier, bolder outfit. Again she received a redesign as the Micro, going back to a traditional style of dress reminiscent of Famicom's yukata. One such edition of the Micro even had Famicom theming to it! This went hand in hand with the Famicom, or NES Classics series, covering many classic Nintendo games throughout the company's storied history.

Later in her career GBA was discontinued in Japan, but this didn't mark the end of her career. She moved to the US for a year to work on a number of titles and do some tours, mainly comprised of older titles. Later interviews revealed that while she did enjoy some of her time at Nintendo, she probably would not work with them again as there were a lot of stressful factors, such as what she described as a strained relationship with GameCube. In 2008 she graduated for good as the DS took the spot as Nintendo's new family of handhelds.

Today, GBA has no social media presence but she does have a website with a e-mail for fan and press inquiries. If you have any questions check out her website and feel free to get in contact! She is fluent in English from her time in the US so she is fine with answering questions from foreigners. However keep in mind there is a notice that she gets an overwhelming volume of English questions about the localization of Mother 3, which she doesn't know anything about. Please keep things civil when interacting with idols, past or present!

Update: As of 2019 GBA has confirmed that he is OK with being referred to with he/she/they pronouns in English! For posterity and since it's still accurate I have kept the wording on this page the same, but please keep this in mind going forward. Let's all do our best as fans to treat all Nintendo idols with the respect they deserve!
